Upendra Tripathy, born on October 5, 1956, is a retired IAS officer from the 1980 Karnataka cadre. He served as Secretary of the Department of New and Renewable Energy from April 2014 to October 2016. His educational background includes postgraduate degrees in Public Administration and Political Science, and a graduate degree in Political Science. Throughout his career, he held various positions such as Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, Managing Director, Chairman, Commissioner, Director, Deputy Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner. He received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, Citizen Extraordinary Award (2008), Silver Award for transport reforms in Bangalore, and the International Gold Star Millennium Award.
