Sanjay Mitra, born on 6 May 1959, is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1982 West Bengal cadre. He holds a B.Sc. in Physics, postgraduate degrees in Physics and Economics. Over his career, he served in various capacities including District Magistrate, Joint Secretary, Principal Secretary, Chief Secretary to Government, and Secretary in the Defence Department. His most recent role was Secretary from 24 May 2017 to 23 August 2019. He also held positions such as Officer on Special Duty, Resident Commissioner, Chairman, and Special Secretary during his tenure in the civil service.
