R Thiagarajan, born on 15 July 1951, is a retired IAS officer from the 1994 Tamil Nadu cadre. He holds a postgraduate degree in English and an MBA in Finance. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities including Project Director, Additional Project Director, Joint Secretary, Secretary, Joint Commissioner, District Collector, Officer on Special Duty to Minister, Commissioner and Director, Deputy Secretary, and Magistrate. His most recent position was Special Secretary in the Department of Finance from 27 May 2009 to 31 July 2011. He has contributed extensively to administrative roles within the Tamil Nadu government.
