R Basu, born on 26 March 1942, is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1964 batch, Gujarat cadre. He holds a graduate degree and postgraduate qualification in Economics. During his distinguished career, he served in various capacities including Assistant Collector, District Development Officer, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner, District Collector, Commissioner, Principal Under Secretary, Member, Executive Director, Executive Director, Principal Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, and Additional Secretary. His most recent appointment was as Secretary at Gujarat from 1 January 1996 to 1 October 1996. He was also associated with the Department of Electronics during his service tenure.
