R Balkrishnan, born on June 12, 1937, is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1959 batch of the Gujarat cadre. He holds a graduate degree in Statistics. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities including District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, Secretary, Principal Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, and Managing Director. His most recent position was Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat in the General Administration Department (Personnel) from August 1, 1993, to June 1, 1995. Balkrishnan's extensive service reflects a broad administrative experience within the Gujarat state government.
