M Balaji, an IAS officer of the 2005 batch from the Tamil Nadu cadre, holds a B.E. in Mech. Engg. from Anna University Chennai, M.Tech. in Mech. Engg. from IIT Delhi, and a Ph.D. in Economics from IIT Madras. He currently serves as the Joint Secretary at the Department of Commerce. Proficient in English and Hindi, he was born on 29/05/1979.
