Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Poompuhar Shipping Corporation, Tamil Nadu, a position he has held since 29 May 2026. Throughout his career, he has held various roles including Secretary, Commissioner, Secretary to Government, District Collector, and Vice Chairman and Managing Director. He is proficient in English, Hindi, and Tamil. Jayakanthan continues to serve in the Indian Administrative Service.
