J. Jayakanthan, born on 24 June 1967, is a 2005 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre. He holds an M.Sc. degree from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Currently, he serves as the Commissioner at Chennai in the Prohibition and Excise Department since 16 November 2023. His previous roles include Secretary to Government, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Commissioner, and District Collector. Jayakanthan is proficient in English, Hindi, and Tamil. He continues to serve in the Indian Administrative Service.
