G S Rao, born on January 6, 1943, is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer from the 1965 Gujarat cadre. He holds a graduate degree and a postgraduate degree in Economics. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities including District Collector, Deputy Secretary, Director, Joint Secretary, Secretary, Additional Secretary, Commissioner, Managing Director, Chief Electoral Officer, Principal Secretary, and Additional Chief Secretary. His most recent position was Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat, from June 1, 2001, to April 30, 2003. Rao's extensive service reflects a broad administrative experience within the Gujarat state government.
