Currently, he serves as the Administrative Secretary at Punjab's Department of Power since October 30, 2025. His previous roles include Finance Secretary, Additional CEO, PS to MOS, Director, Special Secretary, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Administrator, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Sub Divisional Magistrate. He is proficient in English, French, Hindi, and Punjabi. Basant Garg continues to serve in the Indian Administrative Service.
