The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued two separate appointment orders for the appointment of officers to key positions in the Central Government under the Central Staffing Scheme.

According to Office Memorandums dated October 28 and October 29, 2026, two officers from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and Indian Economic Service (IES) have been selected for central deputation.

Minhaj Uddin Nizami

Minhaj Uddin Nizami, a 2016-batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officer, has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Commerce, New Delhi.

His name was recommended for central deputation by the Department of Revenue. His appointment will be for a period of four years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The DoPT has directed that he be relieved of his present duties immediately to take up his new assignment.

Deepak Ranjan:

In another appointment order dated October 29, 2026, Deepak Ranjan, a 2012-batch Indian Economic Service (IES) officer, has been selected for appointment as Director in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, New Delhi.

His name was recommended for central deputation by the Department of Economic Affairs. His tenure will be five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The concerned department has been asked to relieve him immediately so that he can take up his new assignment.

Three-Week Deadline for Joining:

Both appointment orders reiterate the mandatory joining timeline under the Central Staffing Scheme.

As per the directions of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), conveyed through the DoPT circular dated August 17, 2005, an officer is required to join the new assignment within three weeks from the date of issue of the appointment order.

Failure to join within the stipulated period will trigger the process of debarment from the Central Staffing Scheme.

The provision underlines the Centre’s strict adherence to timelines for officers selected for central deputation.
