Three IRS Officers Appointed As CBDT Members

ACC approves appointments of Pallavi Agarwal, Sunil Kumar Singh and Vatsalaa Jha to the Central Board of Direct Taxes

Pallavi Agarwal, Sunil Kumar Singh and Vatsalaa Jha appointed as CBDT Members

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers as Members of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on August 13, 2026, the appointments have been made against vacancies arising on different dates.

Pallavi Agarwal, IRS (IT:91008), currently serving as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions), Delhi, has been appointed as Member, CBDT against the vacancy arising on April 1, 2026.

Sunil Kumar Singh, IRS (IT:91048), currently Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), Ahmedabad, has also been appointed as Member, CBDT against the vacancy arising on July 1, 2026.

The third appointment is that of Vatsalaa Jha, IRS (IT:92003), currently serving as Director General of Income Tax (Investigation), North West Region, Chandigarh. Her appointment has been made against the vacancy arising on September 1, 2026.

Strengthening CBDT’s top leadership

The appointments bring senior officers with experience in tax administration, investigation and exemptions into the apex policy-making body for direct taxes.

The CBDT is responsible for policy formulation and administration of direct taxes, including income tax, and plays a key role in guiding the functioning of the Income Tax Department.

The order was issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Copies were forwarded to the Department of Revenue, Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet Secretariat for information and necessary action.
