Three IPS Officers Appointed As Joint Directors In CBI

ACC approves appointment of Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Satya Veer Singh and Anish Gupta; new assignments will take effect in phases between August and October 2026

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three IPS officers as Joint Directors in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The appointments involve officers from the 2008 batch of different state cadres and will fill Joint Director-level positions in the CBI following the superannuation/relieving of the existing officers.

Akhilesh Kumar Singh appointed first

Akhilesh Kumar Singh, IPS (MH:2008), currently serving as DIG, CBI, has been appointed as Joint Director, CBI, in place of Sudha Singh, IPS (OD:2006).

His appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue up to July 22, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Satya Veer Singh to replace Ashwin Shenvi

The ACC has also approved the appointment of Satya Veer Singh, IPS (BH:2008), DIG, CBI, as Joint Director, CBI, vice Ashwin Shenvi, IPS (HY:2006).

Satya Veer Singh will assume charge on or after September 7, 2026. His tenure as Joint Director will continue up to March 5, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Anish Gupta gets third Joint Director post

The third appointment is that of Anish Gupta, IPS (JH:2008), currently DIG, CBI, who has been appointed as Joint Director, CBI, vice Ramnish Geer.

The appointment will take effect on or after October 1, 2026, consequent upon the superannuation of Ramnish Geer. Anish Gupta will hold the post up to February 29, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Three key appointments within the CBI

With these approvals, the CBI will see three Joint Director-level positions being filled by serving DIG-rank IPS officers. All three appointees are from the 2008 batch, although they belong to different state cadres—Maharashtra, Bihar and Jharkhand.

The appointments are part of the Centre’s ongoing process of strengthening the senior supervisory structure of the premier investigating agency.

The order was issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, on August 10, 2026.
