The Centre on Thursday appointed Sheel Vardhan Singh, a former chief of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), as a member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The UPSC conducts the civil services examination.
Singh is a former IPS officer of the 1986 batch from the Bihar cadre.
He was appointed as the Director General of the CISF, a paramilitary force that provides security to airports and other sensitive institutions across the country, in November 2021. He retired from the central agency in August 2023.
Singh has had a long tenure in the Intelligence Bureau, the country’s internal counter-intelligence agency. He served there as Additional Director and Special Director.
The IPS officer has also served in the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as First Secretary.
