Rashmi Shukla Likely To Be New Maha DGP; Incumbent Rajnish Seth Made MPSC Chairman

Rashmi Shukla is currently the director general of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), a paramilitary unit under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs

In a significant move, the Maharashtra government has removed the incumbent Director General of Police Rajnish Seth and appointed him as the chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) in order to pave the way for bringing in Rashmi Shukla from the Centre to be the new state police chief.

Both Seth and Shukla are Maharashtra-cadre IPS officers of the 1988 batch.

Seth was scheduled to retire on December 31. After him, Shukla is the senior-most IPS officer in the state cadre.

Shukla is currently the director general of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), a paramilitary unit under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. She is scheduled to retire in June 2024. Sources said the order for her appointment as Maharashtra DGP is being processed and she would be repatriated to the state cadre.

Considered close to the ruling dispensation in Maharashtra, Shukla’s return to the state became evident when the Bombay High Court quashed two FIRs against her for alleged phone-taping during the previous MVA government.
