The Modi government has appointed senior diplomat and Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi as the next permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva.
Bagchi, a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, was appointed MEA spokesperson in March 2021 and was later promoted to the rank of additional secretary in the ministry.
The MEA said in a statement that Bagchi would take up his new job shortly, but did not specify any deadline.
Previously, Bagchi has served as joint secretary (north) at the MEA headquarters and as India's ambassador to Croatia from November 2018 to June 2020.
He had a stint in the PMO at the director level and also served as the deputy high commissioner in Sri Lanka.
