Karnataka Orders Major IPS Reshuffle: ADGPs, DIGs, And SPs Get New Charges
14 IPS officers transferred with immediate effect; two ADGP-level posts declared equivalent to cadre post

The Karnataka government has ordered a major reshuffle of 14 IPS officers across senior police positions. The transfer orders, issued on August 29, 2026, take immediate effect and cover posts ranging from Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) to Superintendent of Police (SP).
1996-batch IPS officer Harishekaran P. has been transferred from ADGP, Crimes and Technical Services, Bengaluru, and posted as ADGP, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, relieving Umesh Kumar of concurrent charge. 1997-batch IPS officer M. Nanjundaswami has been appointed ADGP, Police, Grievances & Human Rights, while 1999-batch officer Devajyoti Ray will take charge as ADGP, Police, Crimes and Technical Services, Bengaluru.
The reshuffle also includes several field-level changes. Amit Singh (2007 batch) has been posted as IGP, Karnataka State Reserve Police, while Borase Bhushan Gulabrao (2009 batch) will take charge as DIG and Commissioner of Police, Hubballi-Dharwad. Other officers including R. Chethan, Nikam Prakash Amrit, Shiva Prakash Devaraju, Padmini Sahoo, R. Srinivas Gowda, Dr. Shivakumar, Kushal Chouksey, Sahil Bagla, Rohan Jagadeesh and Mithun H.N. have also been assigned new responsibilities.
A significant administrative decision in the notification is the declaration of the posts of ADGP, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement and ADGP, Grievances & Human Rights as equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of ADGP, Intelligence under Rule 12 of the IPS (Pay) Rules, 2016. The reshuffle effectively brings a broad realignment of senior police leadership and key field postings across Karnataka.
