The Gujarat government plans to form a Medical Services Recruitment Board (MSRB), akin to seven other States.
The State government has urged the Health and Family Welfare Department to form a dedicated recruitment board, in place of carrying out recruitment through separate agencies. This would facilitate recruitment particularly for the State's government hospitals, health centres, and medical education and research sectors. The government expects to make the recruitment process smoother and more transparent.
Taking into view the recommendations of the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission (GARC), the government has decided to soon pass an order to form a board comprising 15 to 20 members.
At present, the recruitment is done through the Health Department as well as the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC).
A top official of the Health Department said that the department has decided to have 12,843 employees in medical services and 16,792 in medical education research. A total of 15,768 employees are working in the public health sector.
According to the official, the Additional Principal Secretary of the Health Department will be the Chairman of the recruitment board for the healthcare sector.
As per the recommendations of the commission, a high-level Recruitment Coordination Committee will also be formed under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, in which the Additional Chief Secretary of GAD will be the Convener.
The Secretary of the Finance and General Administration Department, representatives, and the officers concerned will also be part of the committee, which will be designated as the final authority for disputes, appeals, and clarifications.
The Medical Services Recruitment Board has been in place in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh since 2012 and 2023, respectively. Apart from this, recruitment boards are functioning in Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Telangana, and Uttarakhand. However, recruitment is done through the Public Service Commission and the Health Department in States such as Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
