Gujarat Budget: Clean Air Programme Across 10 Cities

Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the state budget in the Assembly today, in which Rs 30,325 crore has been allocated for the Urban Development Department. As part of the new scheme, it was announced that the State Clean Programme will be implemented across 10 cities of the state. 

Among other important provisions, the budget for the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme has been increased from Rs 8,883 crore to Rs 12,847 crore.

Rs 3,353 crore has been allocated for providing financial assistance to urban local bodies, Rs 2,730 crore for Gujarat Metro Rail projects, Rs 1,950 crore for the development of water supply, drainage system, lakes, transport system, etc. under the Amrut 2.0 Mission, while Rs 1,376 crore has been allocated under the 15th Finance Commission for various development works in cities, and Rs 1,350 crore for providing housing to the urban poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0.

Along with the Clean Air Programmes that are running in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot, a provision of Rs 100 crore has now been made for the implementation of the same in Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar and Bharuch-Ankleshwar.

Rs 72 crore has been provided for the development of infrastructure in GIFT City, while Rs 56 crore has been allocated for the development of depot infrastructure under PM E-Bus Scheme, and Rs 50 crore has been provided for the development of satellite townships.

Under the public-private partnership model of Vadodara and Rajkot Municipal Corporations, Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for the development of convention centres, Rs 14 crore for promoting research and development in urban planning and establishment of a special project cell and planning portal. Under the Gujarat Urban Atlas project, there's a budget of Rs 10 crore for GIS mapping of properties, utilities and major urban projects.

Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated for external funding under Gujarat Resilient Cities Partnership Programme for Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Peri-Urban Livability Improvement Project for Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority Area.

A budget of Rs 808 crore has been provided for beautification, urban sanitation and waste management in urban areas, under the “Swachh Shaher, Sundar Shaher” scheme, along with schemes like Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 and Nirmal Gujarat 2.0.

Under National Urban Livelihood Mission, there is an allocation of Rs 120 crore, while a further Rs 72 crore goes for the development of infrastructure facilities in GIFT City.
