The Central government has approved the premature termination of the appointment of Dinesh Pant as Managing Director (MD) of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), following his decision to retire on a voluntary basis.

The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, issued a notification dated September 24, 2026, approving the premature termination of Pant’s appointment as LIC Managing Director.

According to the notification, the decision has been taken under Rule 19 of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (Staff) Rules, 1960, read with Rule 8 of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Managing Directors (Revision of Certain Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1988.

The government order states that the premature termination of Pant’s appointment will take effect from the date of issue of the notification, i.e., September 24, 2026.

The notification specifically cites “retirement on voluntary basis” as the reason for the premature termination.

Formal Approval By Central Government

The notification formally records the Central Government’s approval for ending Pant’s tenure as LIC MD before completion of his existing term.

The order has been issued by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, and signed by Abdul Gufran, Under Secretary to the Government of India.
