The Centre has appointed Dr Sajjan Singh Yadav, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, as the new Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the appointment order on October 24, 2026.
According to the order, Dr Yadav has been transferred from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir and posted as Chief Secretary of the Union Territory. His appointment will take effect from November 1, 2026, or the date he assumes charge, whichever is later.
Dr Yadav will succeed Atal Dulloo, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre, who is currently serving as Chief Secretary.
The appointment marks a significant administrative change in Jammu and Kashmir, placing a senior AGMUT cadre officer at the helm of the Union Territory’s bureaucracy. As Chief Secretary, Dr Yadav will play a key role in coordinating the administration, overseeing the implementation of government policies and ensuring coordination among departments.
