Centre Approves Six-Month Extension for Tamil Nadu CS Dr. M. Sai Kumar

DoPT Clears Proposal; IAS Officer to Continue in Office Till February 28, 2027

The Central Government has approved a six-month extension in service for Dr. M. Sai Kumar, IAS (Tamil Nadu Cadre: 1990), who is serving as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the extension has been granted following a proposal submitted by the Tamil Nadu Government on June 3, 2026.

As per the order, Dr. Sai Kumar will continue as Chief Secretary from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.

The communication, dated July 15, 2026, was addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary, Public Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, conveying the Central Government's approval for the extension.
