Ajay Seth Given Additional Charge As Revenue Secretary

Seth, who is Secretary DEA, has been given additional charge of the Department of Revenue with immediate effect

Ajay Seth, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs has been given additional charge as Revenue Secretary. According to an order of the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), Seth will hold charge as Revenue Secretary “till the appointment of a regular incumbent or or until further orders, whichever is earlier."

Seth is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of the Karnataka cadre. He holds a BTech degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA. He took over as Secretary, DEA in April 2021. 

With the Budget preparation process in full swing, there was an urgency to find a replacement for Sanjay Malhotra. Malhotra, a 1990-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on Monday. 

Sources said that Seth is not a new face in the Finance Ministry and that he is familar with the Budget discussions.
