8th CPC: No Deadline Extension, Visits To Three States On Cards

The panel will be in Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, and Kolkata in June and July for wider consultations with stakeholders, including state governments

8th CPC, Central Pay Commission, CPC Deadline Extension, Memorandum

The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), led by retired Supreme Court Judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, has lined up back-to-back visits to three state capitals, even as it has decided not to extend the deadline for submitting memorandums.

The panel will be in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on June 22-23, Odisha capital Bhubaneswar on July 6-7, and West Bengal capital Kolkata on July 9-19 to hold wider consultations with a variety of stakeholders, including the state governments.

Sources in the 8th CPC indicated that under certain circumstances, the panel can extend deadlines - as it did in May when many employee and pensioner bodies and stakeholders complained that they could not submit their memorandum online because of technical and other issues. Two extensions have already happened. But so far, the panel has decided not to extend the deadline any further, after it ended June 15.

Visits To Three States

In an official communique, the pay panel said, “The Eighth Central Pay Commission shall be visiting Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on 22nd and 23rd June, 2026 (Monday and Tuesday). Interested stakeholders, including Central government organisations/institutions and unions/associations desirous of interacting with the Commission in Lucknow, may kindly submit their request seeking an appointment on the web link provided on the official website on or before June 10, 2026, along with a ‘unique memo Id’ generated upon submission of the memorandum on the Commission’s portal. Venue details and meeting schedule shall be intimated subsequently.”

Similarly, for its Odisha visit, the pay panel said it “shall be visiting Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on 6th to 7th July, 2026”. It further said, “Concerned stakeholders, including organisations/institutions of the Central government as well as associations/unions, who are desirous of interacting with the Commission at Bhubaneswar, may kindly submit their request seeking an appointment with the Commission on its official portal on or before June 15, 2026, along with a unique Memo ID that has been generated after submitting the memorandum.”

For the West Bengal visit, it said, the Commission “shall be visiting Kolkata, West Bengal, on 9th and 10th July, 2026 (Thursday and Friday).”

The Commission, however, advised stakeholders from states and union territories other than these three states “not to seek appointments during this visit of the Commission” since the panel will be holding separate meetings in their states/union territories in due course.

Stakeholders In Jammu And Kashmir, Ladakh

Earlier this month, the 8th CPC held its meetings with stakeholders from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

With Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh becoming union territories in 2019, their employees now fall under the Central government. The Pay Commission has interacted with employee and pensioner unions and other stakeholders for pay- and pension-related issues.

The 8th CPC is holding meetings with stakeholders to prepare its report.

In simple words, the Pay Commission is a panel constituted by the Government of India to recommend changes in the salary structure of Central government employees - both civil and defence - serving as well as retired.

Every Pay Commission interacts with employees and pensioners across various states and union territories to understand what they expect. These discussions cover topics like pay, pensions, allowances, and working conditions that affect Central government employees.
