8th Pay Commission Extends Suggestion Deadline to May 31

The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) today extended the deadline for the submission of memoranda, representations and suggestions from participants, pensioners, government employees and other stakeholders to 31 May 2026.

“Last date for submission of responses is 31st May, 2026 (Sunday). All submissions are to be made only through the link specified above. Paper-based memoranda/hard copies/pdf/emails of the memorandum are not being considered/ entertained by the Commission,” reads the 8th CPC official website.

Sources stated that the move will help provide additional time for participants to share their views and ideas in the ongoing consultative process.

The extension of the deadline reflects the commission’s commitment to inclusive participation and wider stakeholder engagement. The inputs received during this period will play a crucial role in shaping recommendations related to pay structure, allowances, salary payments, pension frameworks, and service conditions for government employees across the country, sources added.

The stakeholders, including industrial and non-industrial central government employees, personnel in the Defence Forces, and members of the All India Services, officers of the Supreme Court, High Courts in Union Territories, Judicial officers of the subordinate courts in the Union Territories, Service Associations/Unions, Central Government Ministries/Departments/ Organisations/Union Territories, Employees of Ministries and Department, Members of Regulatory Bodies, Employee Associations or Unions, Pensioners and Pensioners’ Associations can submit their Representation or Memorandum or Suggestions to the 8th CPC by May 31, 2026, the order said.

The 8th Pay Commission is engaged in discussions with various employee unions and associations in Delhi from April 28-30. Yesterday, it held a meeting with the National Council Joint Consultative Machinery (NCJCM) (Staff Side) to understand their demands and proposed suggestions, and following this, today extended the deadline.

Employee bodies have welcomed the move by the Commission to extend the submission deadline. Manjeet Singh Patel, President, All India NPS Employees Federation and National Mission for Old Pension Scheme, welcomed the move by the Commission. "We express our gratitude to the Hon'ble 8CPC for extending the final deadline for suggestions on the Eighth Pay Commission from 30 April to 31 May from all organisations, individuals, judiciary, ministries and departments, and appeal to all employees across the country to please send your suggestions to the commission online," Patel said.

Website Down?

The 8th Pay Commission website faced heavy traffic as employee interest surged, while consultations and salary hike demands gathered pace through key meetings in New Delhi

The official website of the 8th Pay Commission faced technical issues as a large number of government employees logged in to track updates and submit feedback. The portal was launched to gather suggestions from stakeholders, including employees, pensioners and ministries, as part of a consultative process led by the Union Ministry of Finance.

The website includes a structured questionnaire to review salaries, pensions and allowances. The slowdown was linked to a surge in traffic as interest around the commission grew, sources said.

The Necessity

There are an estimated 7.5 million Central government employees in the country, which includes defence personnel, the Railways, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). Moreover, about 69 lakh pensioners in the country are eagerly awaiting the 8th CPC’s recommendations.

Although the government has approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 8th CPC, its recommendations are yet to be submitted.

In November last year, the government asked the 8th CPC to submit its recommendation report within 18 months.

The Government of India established the 8th Pay Commission to review and recommend changes to the allowances, salary structures and pension benefits of central government employees and pensions.
