In a significant move to solicit the views of Central government organisations, institutions, and employees' unions and associations, the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) will soon hold meetings with the respective stakeholders in New Delhi and Pune. The central pay revision panel, headed by Justice (Rtd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai, has scheduled interactive sessions in New Delhi for April 28, 29, and 30, while it will hold consultations in Pune on May 4 and 5, in a bid to elicit views from the stakeholders on issues relating to wages, allowances, and post-retirement benefits.

Interactive Sessions

Abhay N. Sahay, Deputy Secretary in the 8th CPC, in a notice, stated that the panel will hold an interactive session in Delhi on April 28, 29, and 30. Anand Kumar Jha, Director in the 8th CPC, stated that the interactive session in Pune will be held on May 4 and 5.

Sources say that the Commission will hold separate meetings in Mumbai and other states at a later time.

“Unions/associations desirous of interacting with the Commission in New Delhi may kindly submit a memorandum on the Commission’s website (8cpc.gov.in). Venue details and meeting schedule shall be intimated subsequently,” a communication by the Commission stated.

The last date to submit the memoranda is April 30, 2026.

The Secretariat had earlier reported that, as part of the first such consultation, the Commission will visit Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on April 24.

Unions Welcome CPC's Move

Welcoming the move, Manjeet Singh Patel, president of the All India NPS Employees' Federation and National Mission for Old Pension Scheme, told The Secretariat that the federation was hopeful of the Commission providing it the opportunity to present its suggestions.

"These interactions are expected to help the Commission in reaching a practical salary structure for the employees. A proactive approach to engage with stakeholders is likely to ensure robust and fair final recommendations," said a member of the Confederation of Central Government Employees.

At a time when the 8th CPC is reaching out to stakeholders for meetings, it has also announced vacancies for as many as 20 consultants, offering a monthly salary of up to ₹1.80 lakh for a full-time role. There are also options for part-time roles (six days a month and 12 days a month).

Meanwhile, Manish Kumar, another Director in the CPC, in an office memorandum dated April 10, 2026, invited applications from eligible candidates for engagement as consultants with the Commission on a contractual basis.

There are an estimated 42 lakh Central government employees in the country. This includes defence personnel, employees of the Railways and public sector undertakings. About 69 lakh pensioners in the country are eagerly awaiting the 8th CPC’s recommendations.

Terms Of Reference

Although the government has approved the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 8th CPC, its recommendations are yet to be submitted.

Several employees' bodies have already submitted a charter of demands to the Union government, suggesting modifications to the 8th CPC's ToR, on the revision of emoluments for the employees and pensioners.

They had also sought the merger of the 50% Dearness Allowance (DA)/Dearness Relief (DR) with the basic pay/pension, and the grant of 20% of pay/pension as interim relief from 1 January, 2026. Besides, they sought the scrapping of the National Pension Scheme (NPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for all employees.

They also opposed contractual employment and sought an end to outsourcing in different Central government jobs.
