V Chandrasekhar, a Gujarat cadre IPS of the 2000 batch and currently posted in the state cadre as IG, Surat Range, in south Gujarat, has been appointed as a joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation for five years.
This will be his second stint in the anti-graft agency in which he earlier served as superintendent of police and deputy inspector general (DIG) from 2012-2019 for seven years.
In Gujarat, Chandrasekhar had been one of the key officers of the state administration. He served as the IG of Ahmedabad Range before he was moved to south Gujarat in the last reshuffle in the state police in July this year.
His is the second appointment at the joint director level in the federal agency within a week. On November 3, Pravin Pawar, a Karnataka cadre IPS officer of the 2003 batch, was appointed joint director of CBI.
