Gyanesh Kumar, born on 27 January 1964, is a 1988 batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre. He holds a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Kanpur, a CFA in Finance from ICFAI Hyderabad, and a postgraduate degree in Economics from Harvard University. Currently, he serves as the Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India in New Delhi since 31 January 2024. Throughout his career, he has held various positions including Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, Resident Commissioner, Project Director, Commissioner, Managing Director, District Collector, Director, Private Secretary, and Under Secretary. He is proficient in English, Hindi, and Urdu.
