The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) believes India must move beyond being a global software services powerhouse and become a creator of indigenous AI and cybersecurity products. Speaking on the issue, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said the government is focusing on developing homegrown cybersecurity solutions while nurturing world-class AI talent through the IndiaAI Mission. Backed by a ₹10,372 crore investment, the IndiaAI Mission aims to strengthen computing infrastructure, improve access to data, support startups, and build a skilled workforce. Meanwhile, Indian firms are expanding cloud and data-centre capacity, while global technology giants and domestic conglomerates continue to announce multi-billion-dollar investments in AI infrastructure. As India balances foreign investment with technological self-reliance, the country faces a defining question: Can it transform from a consumer of cutting-edge technologies into a global developer of AI, cybersecurity products, and digital infrastructure?
