UP Govt To Give New Year Promotion Gift To 115 IAS Officers

District Magistrates of Lucknow, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi and Ghaziabad are likely to find their places in the list of officers being promoted

It appears that the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is ready to give a New Year gift of promotion to 115 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers posted in the state.

If sources in the state administration’s home department are to be believed, the work in this regard is in progress, and the state’s department of personnel will issue the orders on January 1, 2025.

A source in the state’s home department told The Secretariat that IAS officers of the 2000 batch are being selected to be promoted to the rank of Principal Secretary, while officers of the 2009 batch will be given the rank of Secretary.

According to the source, the District Magistrates (DMs) of many districts are also going to be included in the promotion list.

After promotion, there will be a change in the responsibilities given to the officers, he added.

Giving the break-up of the short-listed officers the source mentioned that there are about 40 IAS officers of the 2009 batch who will get promotion from the rank of Special Secretary and DM to the rank of Secretary and Commissioner.

“Among these, there are 5 IAS officers, who are currently holding the reins of different districts as DMs,” he added.

Another source in the home department said that Lucknow DM Suryapal Gangwar, Mathura DM Shailendra Kumar Singh, Kanpur DM Rakesh Kumar Singh, Varanasi DM S Rajaligam and Ghaziabad DM Inder Vikram Singh are likely to be included in the list of officers to be promoted on the first day of the next year.

“If these officers are promoted to the post of Secretary, then all of them could be removed from their postings as District Magistrates,” he added.

It is learnt from the sources that about 51 officers of the 2012 batch will get the selection grade on completion of 13 years of service. At the same time, 17 IAS officers of the 2021 batch are likely to get the pay scale assigned to officers on the completion of four years in service.

The sources said that the meeting of the Department Promotion Committee (DPC) will take place in the last week of December to finalise the pay promotions of IAS officers of 2012 and 2021 batches.
