The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the recommendation of the Civil Services Board (CSB) for the appointment of Ambica Anand, an officer of the Indian Statistical Service (ISS) of the 2009 batch, as the Director in the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), under the Department of Expenditure.

As per an Office Memorandum, the appointment is on a "lateral shift" basis, on a co-terminus basis with 8th CPC, which is further extendable up to 13.10.2030 (which is the balance period out of the admissible tenure of five years under the Central Staffing Scheme) or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Smitha Mol M S (IAS, 2013) has been appointed as the Deputy Secretary in the 8th CPC under the Department of Expenditure.

The key appointments have been aimed at strengthening the workflow of the panel, the recommendations of which are awaited. Several employees' bodies have already submitted a charter of demands to the Union government, suggesting modifications to the 8th CPC's Terms of Reference (ToR).

There are an estimated 42 lakh Central government employees in the country. This includes defence personnel, employees of the Railways and public sector undertakings. About 69 lakh pensioners in the country are awaiting the 8th CPC’s recommendations.
