Two IRS Officers Promoted In-Situ To Principal CC, DG

The order says regular posting of the 1990 batch officers Raj Kumar and Valte Vungzamuan will be approved by the competent authority in due course

Two senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers of 1990 batch Raj Kumar and Valte Vungzamuan have been promoted to the post of Principal Chief Commissioner and Principal Director-General of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), respectively, in level 17 of the pay matrix (apex scale).

The order, issued by CBIC — under the Union Ministry of Finance — said, “The President of India is pleased to empanel and promote the following officers — Kumar and Vangzamuan — to the post of Principal Chief Commissioner/Principal Director-General of Customs and Indirect Taxes in the Indian Revenue Service (Custom & Indirect Taxes), in Level 17 of the Pay Matrix (Apex Scale), against the panel year 2025, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, and until further order.”

The order, however, said that regular posting of the officers would be decided in due course with the approval of the competent authority. Then it went on to ask them to assume charge of the promotional posts on an "in situ basis".

The order also directed that the compliance report regarding the joining of the officers “shall be sent to the Board with a copy endorsed to Principal Additional Director General (HRM-II), Director General Human Resource Development" immediately.

Kumar will continue to hold the post with the apex scale in the pay matrix till July 2028, when he reaches 60 years of age. Similarly, Vungzamuan will hold the position with the apex scale in the pay matrix till March 2029, when he reaches 60 years of age.
