Tamil Nadu Reshuffles Top Bureaucracy, Recasts Key Administrative Posts

The state government has transferred and posted several senior IAS officers across industries, higher education, tourism, welfare and district administration, while also creating temporary senior-level posts in key departments

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced a significant reshuffle of senior IAS officers across multiple departments, alongside the creation of temporary high-ranking administrative posts in industries, higher education and culture.

As part of the transfers, Dr S. Vijayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Land Reforms, has been appointed Additional Chief Secretary to the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department.

V. Arun Roy, Secretary in the Industries Department, has been transferred as Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department.

Dr N. Subbaiyan, who previously served in the Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department, has been posted as Secretary to the Government, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

R. Jaya, Additional Chief Secretary in the Special Initiatives Department, has been moved as Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Resident Commissioner at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi.

Dr MS Shanmugam, formerly Secretary-II to the then Chief Minister, has been appointed Commissioner of Tourism. He will also hold the additional charge as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.

In the district administration, Salem Collector Dr A. Arun Thamburaj has been appointed Director of Information and Public Relations and ex officio Additional Secretary in the Tamil Development and Information Department.

K. Elambahavath, formerly Thoothukudi District Collector, has been posted as Salem District Collector.

Dr R. Brindha Devi has been appointed Director of Art and Culture.

Separately, the services of Dr P. Umanath, Principal Secretary and former Secretary-I to the then Chief Minister, have been placed at the disposal of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation for appointment as its Principal Secretary, Chairman and Managing Director.

According to the government order, the newly created IAS cadre posts have been sanctioned for one year or until the requirement ceases, whichever is earlier.
