Appointment note symbolising Shashi Shekhar Vempati’s appointment as CBFC Chairperson

Shashi Shekhar Vempati has been appointed as Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), India’s statutory film certification body. He will hold office for three years from the date of joining.

Vempati was appointed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 6 May 2026. He brings with him extensive experience in media, broadcasting, and public communication. 

Vempati succeeds Prasoon Joshi who has been made Chairman of Prasar Bharati. His appointment is expected to strengthen the functioning of the CBFC.
