The government on Friday, November 29, 2024 appointed 1990-batch Kerala cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Harinath Mishra as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Mishra, a 1990-batch Kerala cadre IPS officer, most recently held the post of Special Director General in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He is set to replace 1987-batch Chhattisgarh cadre IPS officer Swagat Das, who superannuated on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
In the order, the DoPT said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved appointment of Shri Harinath Mishra, IPS (KL:1990), the Special Director, Intelligence Bureau to the post of as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat vice Shrui Swagat Das, IPS (CG:1987) upon his superannuation on 30.11.2024.”
The secretary (security) is the the administrative head of the Special Protection Group (SPG) that provides security to the Prime Minister and members of his immediate family residing with him at his official residence.
Before being shifted to the Centre, Mishra, a native of Bihar, had earlier served in his home cadre as Inspector General (IG) Crime Branch of the state police, besides other district postings.
In a separate order, the DoPT confirmed that the ACC has given its nod to the curtailment of the term of re-employment of Dharmendra Sharma as the Director General of India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management with immediate effect on the request of Election Commission of India.
He was appointed to the post of the DG at the Institute on April 23, 2019.Sharma is a 1988-batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre.
According to another DoPT order, the ACC on Friday also approved repatriation of Shantmanu, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, to his parent cadre on the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Shantmanu is a 1991-batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre.
