In a rare move, the Government has upgraded and extended the temporary terms of posts held by five senior officers belonging to the IAS and Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS).
The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), in a combined order released late Monday night, said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of terms in temporary upgradation of five officers of various services and cadres.”
The names and the posts of these officers include 1992-batch IAS officer of Tripura cadre Sriram Taranikanti, who holds the post of Director, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). His appointment has been extended to July 31, 2026, and upgraded from Additional Secretary to Secretary.
Another IAS officer, Shashi Ranjan Kumar of the 1991-batch Odisha cadre, who is currently holding the post of Secretary, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has been given extension of term till September 3, 2026.
Similarly, another Odisha cadre IAS officer of the 1991 batch, Sanjay Rastogi, who is currently Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor, has been upgraded to Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor. His temporary term has also been extended to August 11, 2026.
Nitishwar Kumar, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the UP cadre, who is currently the Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor, has been made the Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Women & Child Development, while his term has been extended to September 30, 2026.
Finally, the term of IRAS officer Amitesh Kumar Sinha (1997 batch) has been upgraded from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, and extended to August 9, 2026.
