In a major development, Rajasthan Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant has been transferred to New Delhi.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions has appointed Pant as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The order for Pant's transfer was issued last night.
The post is currently held by senior IAS officer Amit Yadav, who will retire on November 30. After Yadav's retirement, Pant will take charge of the Ministry.
Pant's transfer in the middle of his tenure has surprised many. It is worth noting that when the BJP government came to power in December 2023, Pant was appointed as the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan.
The senior bureaucrat hails from Lucknow, and belongs to the 1991 IAS batch. He was allocated the Rajasthan cadre. Throughout his career, he has held key administrative positions, including District Collector in Jaisalmer, Jhunjhunu, Bhilwara, and Jaipur, as well as Commissioner of the Jaipur Development Authority.
Pant has also worked as Commissioner in the Agriculture Department and Principal Secretary in the Forest and Environment Department.
