Within a month of announcing the Global Capability Centre (GCC) Policy, the Gujarat government has inaugurated the state’s first GCC at GIFT City, Gandhinagar. The centre aims to enhance Gujarat’s role in providing semiconductor solutions both nationally and globally.
During the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasised that this new centre would strengthen Gujarat’s position in the semiconductor industry. The event also witnessed the signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Infineon Technologies and IIT-Gandhinagar, fostering collaboration in industrial research, technology development, innovation, and talent growth.
Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Mona Khandhar, handed over the approval letter for financial incentives under the GCC Policy 2025-30 to Infineon Technologies CEO Yohanne Hennebeck.
Currently, Gujarat stands as the only state in India set to host three semiconductor plants. Hennebeck acknowledged India’s rapid rise as a global semiconductor hub, with Gujarat playing a central role due to its industry-friendly policies.
He further announced that Infineon’s GCC would drive India’s semiconductor growth, employing 500 professional engineers in Gujarat over the next five years.
Vinay Shenoy, Managing Director of Infineon Technologies India, expressed gratitude to the Gujarat government for its crucial support and incentives under the GCC Policy 2025-30, reinforcing the state’s commitment to industry development.
The new GCC marks a significant milestone in Gujarat’s journey toward becoming a leading semiconductor powerhouse, further solidifying India’s standing in the global tech landscape.
