The month of September will see over 20 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers superannuating from service, paving the way for juniors to get promotional avenues and get important positions to serve in the government.
According to the official data, precisely 21 of them belonging to different cadres will complete their decade-old illustrious career in public service. Among them a few held some of the country’s top bureaucratic positions in the Centre and in their cadre states.
According to officials in the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), those retiring from the service have served in critical administrative, developmental and governance roles across India, contributing to policy implementation and public administration in both the Centre and respective state governments.
The spate of retirements is also set to bring in the generational shift in the IAS, where newer officers from more recent batches will assume leadership roles in shaping the next phase of India’s administrative framework.
The DoPT is expected to issue further notifications on the successors and temporary charge allocations in due course, the officials said.
The list of retiring officers includes senior IAS officials from AGMUT, Assam-Meghalaya, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Nagaland, and more.

Their retirement will open more opportunities for middle-level IAS officers, besides inter-cadre transfers or empanelment decisions at the level of the Central government.
