The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat, IPS (Gujarat Cadre: 1998 batch), as Additional Director General (ADG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 1, 2026, the appointment has been made on the proposal of the Office of the Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat.
Bhagat will serve as ADG in the SPG from the date he assumes charge of the post and will continue in the position until May 20, 2027. The appointment has been made by temporarily upgrading the post held by the officer to the rank of ADG as a measure personal to the officer.
The Special Protection Group is the elite security force responsible for providing proximate security to the Prime Minister of India and other designated protectees. Bhagat's elevation to the senior position reflects the confidence reposed in his experience and service record.
The order was issued by Annies Kanmani Joy, Director, Department of Personnel and Training, following approval by the ACC.
