The government on Wednesday reshuffled six senior bureaucrats including the Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This likely marks the final reshuffle in the central administration before the Lok Sabha elections are announced.
In the latest order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, Bihar cadre IAS officer Rahul Singh has been appointed as the new chairperson of CBSE. He takes over from Nidhi Chhibber, who has been moved to Niti Aayog as advisor. Chhibber is a 1994-batch IAS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre.
Singh is currently on deputation to the central government, serving in the Department of Personnel and Training. CBSE falls under the Ministry of Education. It may be noted that the Secretary, School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar is also from the Bihar cadre.
In another change, Assam cadre officer AP Das Joshi was appointed as additional secretary in the DoPT.
Rajiv Kumar Mittal, an IAS officer from the Maharashtra cadre, who is the additional secretary and financial advisor in the Department of Atomic Energy, has been named the new director general of the National Mission for Clean Ganga in the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The National Mission for Clean Ganga is a nodal agency, tasked with cleaning the Ganga River across the states.
Gyanesh Bharti, a 1998-batch IAS officer from Union Territory cadre, has been appointed as additional secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
In the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Deepan Narain, belonging to the Indian Audit and Account Service (IA&AS) of the 1993 batch, has been appointed as the additional secretary and financial advisor.
According to sources, no major changes in the central administration are likely now as the country gears up for the general election, which may be announced within a week.
On Tuesday, foreign secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra was given another extension by the government for six months, till October 31, 2024. Earlier, he was given an extension of 16 months on November 28, 2022. He was expected to superannuate on December 31, 2022.
Kwatra was appointed as the foreign secretary on May 1, 2022, following the conclusion of Harsh Vardhan Shringla's tenure.
