PR Pateilya Takes Over As Secy, Roads & Building Dept, Gujarat

Pateilya will replace AK Patel, who retired today. The new secretary will have to oversee key highway and connectivity projects, which are currently underway

PR Pateilya, Special Secretary, Roads and Building Department Gujarat has been promoted to the rank of Secretary of the department. The notification was released by the state government today. Pateilya will replace AK Patel, who retired today. Patel has been serving as Secretary of the department since 2023.

The department is key to the state’s development as it is related to planning, construction, upgradation, maintenance and connectivity of all roads and urbanisation projects.  Several key projects which include expansion and upgradation of roads and highways under the aegis of the department are currently underway.

The department is also responsible for strengthening connectivity to all villages by all-weather roads with an aim to improve quality of life in rural areas.

One of the key projects is the Bagodara - Dhandhuka - Vallabhipur - Bhavnagar Road. Under the project, the existing road is being widened into a fourlane carriageway. It is an important state Highway joining Ahmedabad district to Bhavnagar.

Once the project is complete, the four-lane carriageway will provide safe and smooth traffic movement. At present, around 25,536 passenger cars and 5,176 commercial vehicles use this road on a daily basis.
