The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday issued an order, giving additional charge of Commissioner Police in Delhi to senior IPS officer SBK Singh, who is currently serving as the Director General of Home Guards, Delhi.

Singh, who happens to be the senior-most IPS officer in the AGMUT cadre, will take over the additional responsibility from August 1 until further orders. The IPS officer is known for his experience in policing and dealing with internal security matters as part of his long career, spanning nearly 37 years. He is now expected to oversee crucial law and order responsibilities in the capital.

Incumbent CP of Delhi Sanjay Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, is superannuating on July 31.

In an order, the MHA said, “With the approval of the competent authority, SBK Singh, IPS (AGMUT:1988) presently posted as Director General of Home Guards, Delhi, is hereby assigned the additional charge of the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from 01.08.2025 and until further orders.”

Incidentally, with Arora's tenure coming to an end, expectations continue to be very high among joint AGMUT cadre IPS officers that one from among them will eventually lead the Delhi Police.

Delhi Police has had two back-to-back chiefs from cadres outside AGMUT. Arora had succeeded Rakesh Asthana, who was a Gujarat cadre IPS officer of the 1984 batch.
