The Gujarat government has carried out a major reshuffle in the state administrative machinery at a time when elections to local self-government bodies have recently concluded. A large number of District Collectors and District Development Officers have been transferred. Following these changes, a reshuffle among senior Secretariat officials is also considered imminent.
One of the most notable transfers is that of Ahmedabad Collector Sujeet Kumar, who has been appointed as Special Commissioner in the State Tax Department. On the other hand, Kutch Collector Anand Patel, whose functioning had remained controversial, has been posted as Commissioner of Schools.
Similarly, Jamnagar Municipal Commissioner D.N. Modi has been appointed as Development Commissioner. Ajay Prakash, Director of the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), has been posted as Managing Director of the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation.
Another significant transfer has taken place in the Tourism Corporation. Prabhav Joshi, who was serving as Managing Director, has been appointed as Municipal Commissioner of Junagadh. The latest round of transfers has also seen a reshuffle of Municipal Commissioners, with several city commissioners being shifted as District Collectors.
After implementing these changes in the district administrative setup, the state government is now expected to initiate transfers among senior IAS officers and key Secretariat departments. Major and possibly surprising changes are likely in several departments, while officers who have been serving at the same posting for a long time are also expected to be moved.
