Manoj Kumar Verma To Replace Goyal As Kolkata Police Commissioner

Verma's moves will be scrutinised with a fine toothcomb as he will be tasked with increasing public safety

Manoj Kumar Verma, a 1998-batch IPS officer, who held the post of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) will take over as Kolkata Police Commissioner following the West Bengal government’s decision to transfer Vineet Goyal.

Goyal was replaced after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met agitating junior doctors who had been demanding his replacement after the rape and death of a lady doctor at R G Kar hospital in the city.

Goyal served as Kolkata Police Commissioner since December 2021. He will now be assuming charge as the Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force).

All eyes will be on Verma who will have to now manage public safety and deal with the ongoing protests.
