Manisha Saxena Appointed As Establishment Officer & Secretary Of Appointments Committee of Cabinet

The post had fallen vacant after Deepti Umashankar last month moved to the Rashtrapati Bhawan as Secretary to the President of India

The Central Government on Friday night appointed 1996 batch IAS officer Manisha Saxena as the Establishment Officer (EO) and Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in place of Deepti Umashankar.

The post had fallen vacant after Umashankar moved to Rashtrapati Bhawan last month as Secretary to the President of India.

Saxena’s name was doing the rounds for some time for the coveted post of the Establishment Officer, who also works as the Secretary to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

The ACC's importance lies in the fact that all top-level personnel appointments are cleared by this powerful body headed by the Prime Minister.

According to a former EO now functioning as a secretary in an important ministry in the Centre, Saxena is an “excellent choice” for the job.

Before her posting in the DoPT, she was Director General of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism. Hailing from the Union Territory cadre, she also served as Secretary and Principal Secretary of Tourism in the Government of Mizoram.

A former radio presenter with Prasar Bharti, Saxena is an alumnus of Delhi’s prestigious Lady Shriram College for Women.

She has also served as Principal Secretary in the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and in various capacities in the DoPT.
