The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit (IPS: Andhra Pradesh cadre, 1993 batch) as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), one of India’s premier internal intelligence agencies.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday, Dixit, who is currently serving as the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau, will take over from Tapan Kumar Deka (IPS, Himachal Pradesh cadre, 1988 batch).

The ACC has approved his appointment for a tenure of two years from the date he assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

To facilitate the appointment, the government has also granted an extension in service under the provisions of Fundamental Rule (FR) 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.

Mahesh Dixit has held several key assignments in the Intelligence Bureau during his career and is regarded as an experienced intelligence officer. His appointment comes at a time when the agency continues to focus on counter-terrorism, internal security, cyber threats, and intelligence coordination across the country.
