The Government of India has appointed Anjani Kumar, a 2003-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the next Ambassador of India to Ukraine.
He is expected to assume his assignment in Kyiv shortly, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Anjani Kumar is presently the Joint Secretary at Headquarters. Earlier, while serving as India's Ambassador to Mali, he was also concurrently accredited as the Ambassador to Mauritania.
During his diplomatic career, he has held several important assignments in the Ministry of External Affairs and at Indian missions abroad, bringing over two decades of diplomatic experience to his new role.
His appointment comes at a time when India's engagement with Ukraine continues to hold strategic significance amid the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict.
India has maintained a balanced diplomatic approach, advocating dialogue and diplomacy while expanding bilateral cooperation with Ukraine in areas such as trade, education, humanitarian assistance, and post-conflict reconstruction.
As Ambassador, Anjani Kumar will be responsible for strengthening political, economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between India and Ukraine, while advancing India's strategic and diplomatic interests in the region.
The Ministry of External Affairs said he is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
