In Major Gujarat Reshuffle, Ahmedabad, Vadodara Get New Police Chiefs

The state transfers around 70 IPS officers, in its first major reshuffle after the assembly polls. Ahmedabad's police chief had retired nearly 3 months ago, while Vadodara is set to receive Gahlaut for a second time as chief

The Gujarat government on Thursday appointed Gyanender Singh Malik as Ahmedabad’s Commissioner of Police (CP) and Anupam Singh Gahlaut as his counterpart in Vadodara, in its first major reshuffle involving 70 police officers after the assembly polls last year.

G S Malik, a 1993-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, assumes the post almost three months after the superannuation of former Ahmedabad police chief Sanjay Srivastava. Malik has been on central deputation as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Central Industrial Security Force.

 

Among senior officers transferred include the Vadodara Police Commissioner Shamsher Singh and Joint Commissioner of Crime Branch in Ahmedabad, Prem Vir Singh, who was also officiating as the city’s police chief since April 30.

 

Gahlaut, a 1997-batch IPS officer of Gujarat cadre, was serving as the ADGP of CID - Intelligence in Gandhinagar, and the new posting would be his second stint as the top police chief in Vadodara.

The notification issued by the home ministry did not specify about the additional charge held by Prem Vir Singh as the director of the state’s Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Shamsher Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer, has been shifted to Gandhinagar as the Director General of Police (DGP), (Law and Order), while Prem Vir Singh would take charge as the Inspector General (IG) of Ahmedabad Range. Incumbent V Chandrasekhar has been posted as IG, Surat Range, the notification said.

Neeraj Kumar Badgujar, Additional CP of Sector-1, Ahmedabad, would take charge as the head of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch as Additional CP (Crime), while Abhay Chudasama, serving as IG of Gandhinagar Range, has been appointed as the Principal of the State Police Academy in Karai, Gandhinagar.

S Pandia Rajkumar, serving as ADGP (Railways) in Ahmedabad has been appointed as the ADGP CID (Crime and Railways) in Gandhinagar.

Apart from the two new Police Commissioners of Ahmedabad and Vadodara, other senior level transfers include range IGs and Deputy IGs of Junagadh, Panchmahal, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and Surat and over two dozen Superintendents of Police and Deputy Commissioners of Poilce of various districts and cities.
