Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government is set to unveil the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Policy soon. The new STI policy aims to further a pioneering high-end product research activity cluster in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
According to sources from the state Science and Technology Department, the state government will release the new STI policy before the end of this month.
With the previous STI Policy (2018-2023) having concluded, the draft for the new STI policy for 2024-2029 was in the process.
The consultation for the revised policy was discussed in the 40th Executive Committee meeting of GUJCOST on December 22, 2023. In the meeting, the committee members offered suggestions for incorporating new research areas and increasing the number of research proposals, which have been incorporated into the revised draft.
Moreover, the policy drafting process included a stakeholder meeting with academia, researchers, startups, industry associations, and various line departments.
As the approved policy draft will be announced soon, sources who are aware of the development said, "Primary objective of the policy is to promote world-class research and development facilities around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, where MNCs will establish their research and development centres and produce world-class products.”.
“We aim to further promote production facilities of different new products that can cater global market,” he added.
