Gujarat Reshuffles Several IPS Officers, New Police Chiefs Named For Surat And Vadodara

Ahmedabad, Surat and Kutch get new range IGs. Additionally, the state government has also promoted more than two dozen IPS officers, by upgrading their current posts

The much awaited reshuffle in Gujarat's police establishment got underway ahead of the Lok Sabha elections with the appointment of new police chiefs for Surat and Vadodara and range inspector general (IGs) for Ahmedabad, Surat and Kutch.

Additionally, the state government has promoted more than two dozen IPS officers, by upgrading their current posts.

Vadodara Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlot has been shifted to Surat city as its police commissioner. Gujarat’s second largest city was without a police chief for nearly two and half months, following the retirement of Ajay Kumar Tomar on January 31.

In Gahlot's place, the government has posted Narasimha N Komar, presently serving as additional Director General (Administration). Komar is a 1996 batch IPS ,while Gahlot is one batch junior to him. Both belong to the Gujarat cadre.

As for the range IGs, JR Mothaliya will be taking charge Ahmedabad range, while Prem Vir Singh and Chirag Koradia have been named for Surat and Kutch respectively.

Mothaliya was earlier range IG in Kutch, while Prem Vir Singh was in Ahmedabad range and Koradia was serving in the city as an additional Commissioner of Police in Ahmedabad.

Besides, the state government has also appointed Superintendent of Police for various districts. Accordingly, Dr Tarun Duggal has been made SP of Mehsana, Om Prakash Jat as SP, Ahmedabad Rural, Gaurav Jasani as SP, Anand and Imtiaz Shaikh as SP, Chhota Udepur.

Among those who have been promoted in their existing positions include Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik from the rank of Additional DG to Director General. According to sources, the state government has obtained the clearance from the Election Commission of India regarding the reshuffle.
